Technology

Ankai’s cooperation with Daimler Group over two decades laid a strong foundation for Ankai buses with monocoque body technology; body strength 3~6 times of that of common buses and weight approx. 8% lighter than the buses of same class.

Ankai further incorporate National Electric Bus Research Center, National R&D center, and National post-doctoral programme center into technology innovation and product development.

ANKAI Research & Development

Continuous research and development are cornerstones of the foundation for product innovation. At the manufacturing bases, there are 5 major laboratories, with focus on each specific field listed as follows:

1) New Energy Vehicle Drive System
2) Electronic Control System
3) Component Performance
4) Traction Battery Laboratory
5) Complete Vehicle Performance Research

Vehicle Design Capability

High-end technological pioneer and benchmarking by the introduction of best-in-class bus brand SETRA to China since 1993. Ankai successfully obtained the monocoque invention patent to reproduce the monocoque body structure which is 3-6 times stronger than the common bus body.

All ANKAI electric buses are equipped with the trinity of vehicle control, motor drive and energy management for fault warning and intelligent management of in-vehicle control systems.

A 4-channel road simulation testbed, Advanced Vehicle Powertrain (AVL Cruise), a chassis dynamometer and an environment simulation cabin completely simulate the reliability test of the whole vehicle under actual road conditions in the laboratory. Other simulations include ANSYS fluent – hydrodynamic simulation and HyperMesh – finite element analysis.

Cathode Electrophoresis

Whole Vehicle cathode electrophoresis treatment and additional premium anti-rusting coating are applied to enhance the corrosion resistance.

ABS + EBD

Anti-lock brake system (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) are synchronised perfectly. When the wheels are locked in event of emergency braking, the EBD balances the effective ground adhesion for each wheel before ABS is actuated to prevent drifting and side-sway, shorten the braking distance, and guarantee the driving safety of the vehicle.

Energy Efficiency

The multi-stage energy recovery strategy can realise the recovery of more than 30% of the vehicle’s kinetic energy. The combination of the two makes the energy consumption of ANKAI buses more than 5% lower than other electric buses in the same category.

ANKAI buses operate a dedicated electric drive system that function under complex and variable working conditions with advanced system engineering, achieving high efficiency over a wide range of frequencies, and therefore, improving vehicle mileage and economy.

Performance & Safety

The battery management system monitors battery to operate within its safety margins and prevent over-charging and over-discharging of the battery, and therefore, prolong battery life.

ANKAI electric buses equipped with CATL (largest battery manufacturer in the world) Lithium Iron Phosphate battery which has lower environmental impart, longer lifecycle, thermally and chemically stable compared to other Lithium Ion battery.

Traction Battery and High Voltage Safey Protection System on ANKAI electric buses provide commuter a safe journey.
